Define uniform circular motion. Is the uniform circular motion accelerated? If yes why?
Answers
Answer:
Uniform Circular Motion
When an object moves in a circular path with uniform speed, its motion is called uniform circular
motion.
• When a body moves along a circular path then its direction of motion (or direction of speed)
keeps on changing continuously. Therefore, motion along a circular path is said to be
accelerated.
• To calculate the speed of a body in uniform circular motion
A body moving around a circular path travels a distance equal to its ‘circumference’ in one
round We know, circumference of a circle of radius(r)= 2πr.
If the body takes t seconds to go once around the circular path of radius r,
then velocity (v) = 2πr
t
Examples of uniform circular motion
1. Motion of an artificial satellite around the earth
2. Cyclist moving uniformly over a circular track.
3. A small piece of stone tied to a string and rotated in a circle with uniform speed.
