oxygen and sodium
1)The valency of oxygen is 2 as its electronic configuration is 2,6 and it need 2 electron to complete their octet.
2) Oxygen has 8 electrons of which 6 are in the valence shell or outermost shell.
3) Atoms can either donate or receive electrons only in valence shell.
4)
Electronic configuration of oxygen is 2 , 6 . If the no. Of electrons in the outer most shell exceeds 4 then it should be subtracted from the total no. Of electrons

OXYGEN - 2 , 6
5) So electrons in outer most shell exceeds 4 . So no. Of total electrons - no of electrons in outer most shell.

8 - 6 = 2
SO VALENCY OF OXYGEN IS TWO

HOPE THIS WILL HELP YOU

thanks you......

Explanation:

The valency of an element is the combining capacity of that element. The valency is determined by the number of valence electrons present in the atom of that element. For example, the atom of oxygen has six valence electrons. ...
