Answer:

The number of electron gain, shared or loose by an atom to achieve its stability is known as its valency.

atomic number of silicon is 14

it's electronic configuration is 2,8,4

so its valency is 4

similarly atomic no. of sodium is 17

its electronic configuration is 2,8,7

so its valency is 2
