Valency is defined as the number of electron which are required to full fill the last orbit of atom by loss and gain of electron is equal to the valency and it is called valency. here the Mg easily lose the 2 electrons so its valency is 2 . and the oxygen easily take the 2 electrons so its valency is also 2.
