Define Valency.
Find the valency of an element whose atomic number is 12.

Valency is the number of electrons from an atom can accept or give from the last shell of an atom in order to attain a stable electron configuration. The electronic configuration of the element will be 2,8,2, so the valency is 2 positive as the atom will give electron. Those which gain electrons are negative.
