Value of a polynomial at a point is the value obtained by the polynomial at that point. For example lets take a polynomial as p(x) = x3 – 2x2 + 7x – 8, then value of the polynomial at x=1:

 p(1) = (1)3 – 2(1)2 + 7(1) – 8 = 1  – 2 + 7 – 8 = – 2

SOLUTION :

VALUE OF A POLYNOMIAL AT A GIVEN POINT :

If p(x) is a polynomial of x and α is a real number, then the value obtained by putting x =  α in p(x) is called the value of p(x) at x = α .

For e.g :

If p(x) = 3x² - 4x + 5 then its value at x = 1  is

p(1) = 3(1)² -4(1) + 5

= 3 -4 +5 = -1 +5 = 4

Hence, the value of p(x)at x = 1 is 4.
