Speed of an object is defined as the distance traveled by the object per unit time whereas velocity of the object is the displacement of the object per unit time.

Distance and displacement are the same when the motion is linear but in case of turns it is not equal.

Speed is a scalar quantity and can be defined by magnitude only whereas velocity which is a vector quantity has to be defined using both magnitude and direction.
