Vertebrates :-

  1. The phylum chordata includes all animals which has back bone and are called as vertebrates.
  2. They have an internal skeleton and a back bone.
  3. Spinal cord of vertebrates are dorsal.
  4. Their heart is on the ventral side of the body.
  5. Their hemoglobin is red in colour.
  6. Example - Humans, Birds, monkey, lion, bear, fishes.

Vertebrates are further divided into 5 types :-

  1. Pisces
  2. Amphibia
  3. Reptilia
  4. Aves
  5. Mammalia

Pisces:-

  • Their body is streamlined.
  • They lay eggs and are cold blooded.
  • They have scales on their body.
  • Eg:- Angler fish, cat fish

Amphibia:-

  • They have 5 chambered heart.
  • Respiration is through lungs and gills.
  • They have 5 fingered limbs.
  • Eg:- frog, toads, salamander

Reptilia:-

  • They are cold blooded animals.
  • Lay eggs with tough covering.
  • They have 3 chambered heart.
  • Eg:- snakes, tortoise

Aves:-

  • Aves have 4 chambered heart.
  • They breath through lungs.
  • They have feathers on their body.
  • Eg:- All birds

Mammalia:-

  • Mammals are highly developed animals on land.
  • They give birth to their young ones and are warm blooded.
  • They have 4 chambered heart.
  • Eg:- Humans, elephants, dogs, monkey
