Also called coupling-link. n. Figuratively, anything that links or joins one thing to another; that which serves to connect or unite members of a series, or to fill a hiatus between them: as, aconnecting-link in an argument, or in a chain of evidence; aconnecting-link between two orders of being.

vestigial organ n. A rudimentary structure in humans corresponding to a functional structure or organ in ancestral animals.

Vestigial Organ:

These organs are present in reduced form and do not perform any function in the body but correspond to the fully developed functional organ of related animals.

For example, Human body has about 90 vestigial organ.

some of these are nictitating membrane , muscles of pinna , vermiform appendix , tail bone, wisdom , teeth , hair on body , nipples in male.

presence of vestigial organs indicates that these were functional in the ancestral forms but have vestigial and non functional in the present form due to change in their functions.

These are organisms having the characters of two different groups.

for example: Archaeopteryx.
