Vulcanisation is the process of heating rubber and other polymers by adding additives like sulphur to make them stronger and more durable.

For example: Vulcanised rubber is used for making tires of a car. This is because tires made up of natural rubber wont last long.

Advantages of Vulcanisation :

1. They increase durability of the material.

2. They make a weaker polymer stronger as well as make the vulcanised material superior.

→ Vulcanization ( also spelled as vulcaniaation ) is a process or more specifically a chemical process in which polymers are converted into a form which more durable than their initial form.

→ It is performed by creating crosslinks.

→ If we form cross links between each polymer chain, it also affects the mechanical properties of that particular element over which the vulcanization process is done.

→ It is quite often that we use the term " vulcanized fibre " by which we actually refer to a kind of cellulose that is in fact treated by a zinc chloride (  $\bold{ZnCl_2}$ ) solution so that the cellulose fibres are crosslinked.
