Wavelength is distance between two consective crust or trough of a wave.

Standing wave pattern arises due two superimpostion of several waves in a specific manner. Hence it can be thought of as, two same wave patterns carrying energy in opposite directions. Hence there is no net change in energy of medium.

And thus standing wave transfers no energy.

Explanation:

  • The distance between two consecutive crest or two consecutive trough is called wavelength of a wave.
  • When two waves having same amplitude and frequency that are moving in opposite direction combine each other, then standing waves forms.
  • The both wave will transmit energy in their direction, as a result, the net energy is equal to 0.
  • Hence, there is no transfer of energy in standing wave.
