Answer:

Sublimation is the process of conversion of solid to gas directly, without the state of liquid coming. For example, the evaporation of naphthalene balls.

The process of conversion of gas state to solid state is also called sublimation.

Answer:-

At First,

What is Sublimation?

=> Sudden chemical change of a solid matter directly into it gaseous state without changing into liquid is known as Sublimation. Material which is in this category is Camphor (Karpoor), Napthalene, Dry Ice (A solid form of carbon). Normally, all the materials (at solid state) at first change into liquid then gas, but some materials don't change themselves and skip from being at liquid state.

Additional Information about Sublimation:-

(ACTIVITY)

Main Aim:-

In this activity, we are going to see the process of Sublimation.

Materials Required:-

  1. Napthalene/Camphor
  2. Burner (Adult Supervision REQUIRED!)
  3. Steel Spoon

Procedure:-

  • Turn the burner on.
  • Then, place some Camphor/Napthalene on the spoon.
  • Then, place the the spoon (with contents) over the fire (3cm above the fire)
  • You can observe, after 7-10 secs, it will start the process.
  • After a minute, you can observe that the content has totally converted into gaseous state.

Observation:-

We can observe that Camphor (/Napthalene) changed into gaseous state from it's solid state directly.

____________...

(((

Some More:-

  • If, sand (/or any other small material) is mixed with Camphor and you want to take out sand from the mixture, you can apply the same activity for taking it out. (The kindling temperature should be high of the material.)
  • Dry Ice, on specific pressure and temperature also changes from it's solid state (made up of Carbon) to gaseous (carbon vapor).
