The fear or dislike of what is thought to be alien or different is xenophobia. It represents a perceived rivalry between a group and an out group and is wary of the one actions of the other and its desire to suppress their existence and the fear of cultural , ethnic or racial identity losses.

Explanation:

  • Manifestations of xenophobia include acts of direct discrimination, hostility or violence and incitement to hatred. Discrimination on the grounds of ethnic and social origin ('xenophobia') has consistently been one of the top three equality rights violations. xenophobia manifestations hinder policies and mechanisms of integration.
  • Such actions spread the fear that not only the victims however their families are adversely affected. People who associate with the victims can feel insecure & reluctant to go to public places & access to public services, restricting their opportunities for education and jobs, jeopardising their health, and preferring to live in areas often populated by similar people.
  • xenophobia manifestations hinder social growth & restrict the transfer of essential knowledge. In societies that represent diversity as a challenge rather than a source of enrichment, people are not encouraged to achieve their full potential, that impacts economic growth.
  • Many who have committed xenophobic acts are either not held liable or released soon after they have been arrested. The absence of timely and successful "investigation & prosecution" results in distrust: hate crimes victims & witnesses are unwilling to disclose them & are seeking effective solutions. Therefore, there is no documentation of several cases of xenophobic attacks, verbal harassment, violations & crime, giving the impression which there is no such problem.
  • At times, law enforcement agents mistreat victims of xenophobic acts while trying to investigate an incident. Victims may also be pressured to drop complaints against suspects by family or other members of their community. Hatred crimes under-reporting hinders transparency & facilitates their recurrence.
