Plants have two different types of transport tissue. Xylem transports water and solutes from the roots to the leaves, phloem transports food from the leaves to the rest of the plant. Transpiration is the process by which water evaporates from the leaves, which results in more water being drawn up from the roots.

As a young vascular plant grows, one or more strands of primary xylem form in its stems and roots. The first xylem to develop is called 'protoxylem'. In appearance protoxylem is usually distinguished by narrower vessels formed of smaller cells.

xylem  is the vascular tissue which is responsible for the conduction of water ans xylem vessels are  the part of xylem tissue . they are long tubes which help in transportation . it does n't  contain nucleus and cytoplasm they are formed by the union of dead cells .
