Young fold mountain have been formed later than the Old Fold Mountains. They have steep slopes, deep valleys, and sharp pointed snow covered peaks. They are much higher than the old fold mountains and have rough topography. The Himalayas, Alps,Andes and Rockies are examples of young fold mountains.

The rock layers may undergo folding due to the compression of lithospheric plates along convergent margins. Mountain ranges so formed are called fold Mountains.
Young fold mountains are about 10 to 25 million years of age
