Define Young's Modulus of elasticity. Two parallel steel wires A and B are fixed to rigid support at the upper ends and subjected to the same load at the lower ends. The lengths of the wires are in the ratio 4: 3, The increase in the length of the wire A is 1 mm. Calculate the increase in the length of wire B.

Answer:

your answer is

Let the length of the wire A and B are l mm and l' mm respectively.

According to the problem,

l / l' = 4/5 ...(i)

And r / r' = 4/3 ...(ii)

As the material is same Young's modulus for both the wires are same.

Y = Stress/ Strain

on substituting (i) and (ii) in equation (iii), we get

2.

this is your right answer
