(1) a curve (also called a curved line in older texts) is an object similar to a line which does not have to be straight.
2) An open curve is a curve where the beginning and end points are different.
3) Closed Curve. In the plane, a closed curve is a curve with no endpoints and which completely encloses an area.
4) Simple Closed Curve. A connected curve that does not cross itself and ends at the same point where it begins. Examples are circles, ellipses, and polygons
