Definition of decomposition reaction with examples
Answers
a decomposition reaction is a type of chemical reaction in which a single compound breaks down into two or more elements or new compounds .these reactions often involve an energy source such as heat, light,or electricity that breaks apart the bonds of compounds.
What is Chemical Reaction?
The reaction in which new substance are formed from the initial substance only by rearrangement of atoms.
DECOMOSITION REACTION :-
A type of chemical reaction in which a single substance get splitted into two/more substances.
It is an endothermic reaction because external force of energy is required to perform the reaction like heat, light, electricity etc.
TYPES OF DECOMPOSITION REACTION :-
1. THERMAL DECOMPOSITION REACTION
It is a decomposition reaction which is carried out by the action of heat.
E.G. If we heat calcium hydroxide then we can get calcium oxide and water.
2. ELECTRO-DECOMPOSITION REACTION
It is a decomposition reaction which is carried out by the help of electrolysis / electric-current.
E.G. When water is separated to hydrogen and oxygen , electrolyte process is used.
3. PHOTO- DECOMPOSITION REACTION
It is a decomposition reaction in which light energy is used to carry out the reaction.
E.G. When silver bromide is kept in front of sun it get separated.
