 \bf Fractions

The numbers of the form a/b, where b ≠ 0 and a,b are whole numbers is called a fraction. For fraction a/b, a is called numerator and b is called denominator of the fraction.

 \bf Types \:  of  \: fraction

Proper fraction : If the numerator of a fraction is smaller than the denominator then fraction is called proper fraction.

For example :

 \mathfrak{ \dfrac{1}{3}, \dfrac{4}{5}  ,\dfrac{7}{9}   \: etc.}

Improper fraction : If the numerator of a fraction is greater than the denominator then fraction is called improper fraction.

For example :

\mathfrak{ \dfrac{4}{3}, \dfrac{9}{5}  ,\dfrac{10}{7}  etc.}

Like fraction : Fractions with same denominators are called like fractions

For example :

\mathfrak{ \dfrac{1}{5}, \dfrac{2}{5}  ,\dfrac{3}{5}  etc.}

Unlike fraction : Fractions with different denominators are called like fractions.

For example :

\mathfrak{ \dfrac{1}{7}, \dfrac{5}{3}  ,\dfrac{4}{5}  etc.}

Unit Fraction : Fraction whose numerator is one is called unit fraction.

For example :

\mathfrak{ \dfrac{1}{7}, \dfrac{1}{3}  ,\dfrac{1}{5}  etc.}

Mixed Fraction : Fraction having whole number along with proper fraction is known as mixed fraction.

For example :

\mathfrak{ 1\dfrac{2}{3}, 1\dfrac{4}{5}  ,2\dfrac{2}{3}  etc.}

Equivalent Fractions : A given fraction and fraction obtained by multiplying or dividing its numerator and denominator by the same non zero integer are called equivalent fraction.
