Hi friend,
River Ganga runs it's course over 2500km from gangotri in himalayas to Ganga sugar in Bay of Bengal through many cities and towns. This river is very holy river where people go to pray. In year 1985 Ganga action plan was launched by the government of india in collaboration with the department of environment under the chairmanship of the prime minister. In the Ganga action plan wastewater was generated in different cities of Uttar Pradesh, West bengal and many cities was intercepted, diverted and given treatment. I another phase the major tributaries of Ganga like yamuna, gomti, etc were covered for pollution treatment. The major cause of this pollution was municipal and industrial waste, disposal of half burnt dead bodies and animal waste, run off from solid dump garbage areas. Many crores of ruppes were spend on this plan but still can't achieve success. This can be because of dismanagement, corruption, etc reasons. And today the ganga is even more polluted. The measures that was taken by authorities with this plan was very nice but still can't achieve success. Some measures were--: fishing was banned.
But still we can do a lot of things to make Ganga clean.
Just clean ganga.
Save water.
Save life.
Hope it helps.............

Ganga river is one of the holy rivers in our nation which is really sacred. But nowadays people pollute it a lot. They do a lot of polluting things in the name of religion. They pollute it by throwing the dead bodies in it, thinking that their soul will attain mukthi. And many dump wastes and do bathing, washing clothes all the human activities in the holy river making it very much polluting and unclean. That's why an action was launched known as The Ganga action plan by Shri Rajeev Gandhi. This was launched in order to preserve the Ganga river and save it from pollution. And the most miserable fact is that Ganga river is the 6th polluting river in the world. See how a pure holy river is completely changed!
So save The Ganga river!!!
Thanks
