Definition of Isotype-

An Isotype is defined as the duplicate of the holotype.

• The names of the taxa of the category or rank- "family" and below are detremined through nomenclatural types, this way of categorisation is referred to as "Typification".
• The "types" are-

1. Holotype- Its the specimen or element (figure or description) which is designed as a nomenclatural type by the author.
2. Isotype- defined in the answer.
3. Lectotype- In cases where no holotype is designated by the author at the time of publication or the holotype is missing for some reason, the specimen or element selected from the original material to serve as the nomenclatural type is called the lectotype.
4. Syntype- Syntype is any one of the two specimen cited by the author as the nomenclatural type.
5. Neotype- In cases where all the material on which the description of new species was based is missing, the new specimen or element that is selected to serve as the nomenclatural type is called the neotype.
