It is a kind of cell division which results in the formation of two daughter cells... With same chromosome no. In each as that of parental cell ...that is why it is also referred to as equational division also..
For eg. 2n parental cell (diploid) will produce diploid daughter cell only...
Similarly...Haploid (n) parental cell produces haploid daughter cell through mitosis....
It is mainly in somatic cells (cells other than reproductive cells or gamete cell)
