velocity is defined as rate of change of displacement

v = \frac{s}{t}

where v is velocity,s is distance,t is time

its S.I. unit is m/s
it id a vector qty.

cooldudebhavy: wrong how can u say that the velocity is vector when in the definition u r saying that it is rate of change of distance and distance is a scalar quantity
ask1198: actually velocity also depends on direction
ask1198: there is a vector quantity
cooldudebhavy: so ur definition is wrong instead it should be rate of change of displacement
ask1198: yes
ask1198: but thats what i've written
cooldudebhavy: u have written distance instead of displacement . there is a lot of difference between them
cooldudebhavy: sry u edited the answer
ask1198: i've written displacement
