☛ An electric current can be used of making temporary magnets known as electromagnets

  • An electromagnet works on the magnetic effect of current.

Let us discuss in detail,

An electormagnet is a magnet consisting of a long coil of insulated copper wire wrapped around a soft iron core that is magnified only when electric current is passed through the coil.

☛ A simple electromagnet is shown is the figure. To make an electromagnet all that we have to do is to take a rod NS (north and south) of soft iron and wind a coil C of insulated copper wire around it

☛when the two ends of the copper coil are connected to a battery, then an electromagnet is formed.

Factors affecting the strength of an Electromagnet:-

  • The number of turns in the coil.

  • The current flowing in the coil.

  • The length of air gap between it's pole.
