Degree of remainder is always less than the degree of divisor as if remainder is greater than divisor than the number to be divided can be divided again by adding remainder.

When we divide numbers divisor is always taken to be largest whole number to fit into dividend. When divisor completely do not divide dividend we get remainder whose degree is always tried to be kept minimum whole number.

Example is if 34 is divided by 4 divisor is 8 as 8*4 =32 and 2 more give 34 so divisor is 9 and remainder is 2, so we have divisor> remainder.
