Respiration in Roots :-

The roots of a plant are fixed in soil. The fine air spaces present in between the soil particles contain oxygen. This oxygen is taken up by the root hair through diffusion. Root hair are simple extensions of root which do not have water proofing cuticle.

Similarly, CO₂ from the epidermal cells of roots move back into the air spaces in the soil through the root hair. Thus, the exchange of gases takes place in roots through root hair.
