Hello mate here is your answer.
You want to copy the application from the disk image, to your applications folder. Then eject the "virtual" disk, and delete the .dmg file. Also, 6 months down the road when you empty out your downloads folder and delete all your dmg files, you just deleted your only copy of the application in question.
