Answer:

In the reign of Auranzeb Delhi was capital of trade, goods. Ppl used to come there and sell their stuff.

But after his death regional powers(Maratha, nawab etc.) rose and they made their own capitals. They reused to accept sovereignty of mughals (cz of weak rulers). So slowly Delhi lost its prosperity.

Nadir shah plundered Delhi in 1737 and massacred thousands of people. Do to the fear of invasion people left the city because there was no capable ruler who can protect them.

Even regional powers like jats, Sikhs, marathas did the same.
