delhi is further away from the equator than chennai.but summer in chennai is not as hot as in delhi.what are the reasons for this?

As Chennai is in lower altitude it experiences moderate climate and Delhi is situated in high altitude it experiences extreme climate

The distance from equator doesn't matter in this case
Chennai is more closer to sea. So it experiences moderate climate throughout the year. Neither too hot in summer nor too cold in winter
But Delhi is far away from sea. It faces continental type of climate or we can say extreme climate.This means too hot in summer while too cold in winter
