given x + y= 600

  14y + y = 600  (from 1)

            15y = 600

               y=600/15

               y=40

                substitute it in equation  (1)

                 x=14y

                 x = 14*40

                 x = 560

therefor the LCM of two numbers is 560 and their HCF is 40

      LCM*HCF=product of numbers

let the unknown number be (a)

        560*40=280*a

                   a=560*40/280

                    a = 80

therefore the unknown number is 80
