It is easier to segregate and form rules for a segment of people knowing or believing in something collectively.

These people can easily be guided and governed in the name of common language, god, faith, freedom by creating rules that are considered virtues and practical enough for the group of people to live by.

Groups helps  control behavior as it sets ideal limits to what one can do or cannot do
