Why should anyone justify prejudiced opinions of others? See things straight.
Democracy is actually all about people's right to be independent.
Your statement may make sense when Democracy is not properly implemented. Democracy is a complex process to be implemented in any society.
In India, Democracy is still effective but inefficient. this is because, our public is yet to be facilitated with legible techniques to obtain information about what is happening around us.
Those sectors which are responsible for providing legible, rightful and reliable information to the public are
1, Education
2, Media (newspapers and TV channels)
3, Respective Public Sector offices (like municipal office, collector office, etc.,)
All these sectors are filled with corruption that spoils the nature of their service. For example,
1, In Education sector, School students run behind competitive exams rather than seeking solutions to the visible problems we see in our society, this indicates the failure of our examination system which has deviated our students from seeking actual knowledge.
2, Media, They make news out of issues which are no way useful for the public. Their main target is to create a sensation and earn TRP for their Ad Revenue. So, they prioritise "celebrity news" instead of "public issues", they also prioritise the useless "political blame games" instead of the critical "Administrative Issues" in our country.
3, Finally the Government Sector, Digital India campaign could have digitalised the entire administration for efficient interaction and sharing of information with the public for whom these offices are functioning, but if they did so, then would be held accountable for their poor progress in various government expenditure and services. Then their corruption will get exposed, so the government offices are serious about not making themselves transparent.
Political competition is good for Democracy, but power and money shouldn't have a role in the victories of political parties in the elections. Today In India, power and money are essential factors of success in politics. And the third factor that influences the success of a party is their reliable stand of various public issues. And this third factor always keeps democracy alive in our country.
What could go wrong if Democracy is alive, well everything goes wrong when there is lack of public awareness. The people's role doesn't end with their voting rights, people's participatation in a democratic rule should always be integrated with the government.
