Good governance is an abstract term used to judge the performance of the public institutions in terms of conducting and managing the public properties.  This can be well performed if it is carried out in a democratic way.

For example, if a new law has been implemented, there should be transparency and consensus should have been obtained from the citizens or from the elected representatives.  Everyone should have equal rights and every citizen under that government should have minimum of education.  The citizen should be well-informed about the happenings of the government.

Democratic conduct and good governance are complementary to each other. Democracy is a rule 'of the people' by the people' and 'for the people'. In this form of government the representatives of the people carry on the work of administration. For an ideal democracy both the rulers and the ruled should behave in a responsible manner.

The citizens

1. The citizens should be unbiased and support the right policies - For instance, the people who are ruled should be aware of the policies of the government and know all about the leaders. So that they can make the right choice of representatives. And support the right policies.

2. They should discharge their fundamental duties - For example, the people must understand their responsibilities along with their rights. They should use their rights in the proper manner.

The rulers

1. The rulers should work for the welfare of the nation and the people - For example, they should take up policies for the welfare of the people since they have been chosen by the people.

2. No misuse of power - For instance, the rulers should not misuse their powers or the public money.

In this way both the rulers and the ruled must work together to make democracy a success.
