Answer:

==========================================

Old Fraction = 7/12

==========================================

Step-by-step explanation:

==========================================

Given:

Old fraction = x / x + 5

New fraction = x + 18 / x + 5 - 4 = x + 18 / x + 1

Fraction = 25 / 8

Solution:

Fraction = x + 18 / x + 1

25 / 8 = x + 18 / x + 1

Cross-multiply 25 with x+1 & 8 with x+18

25x + 25 = 8x + 144

25x - 8x = 144 - 25

17x = 119

x = 119 / 17

x = 7

x + 5 = 7 + 5 = 12

∴ Old Fraction = 7/12
