  • Velocity is a physical vector quantity; both magnitude and direction are needed to define it. The scalar absolute value (magnitude) of velocity is called speed, being a coherent derived unit whose quantity is measured in the SI (metric system) as metres per second (m/s) or as the SI base unit of (m⋅s−1).

  • Density is measured in kg⋅m−2 . This means that it is derived from fundamental units which are the kilogram and metre. The kilogram is defined as the mass of a platinum-iridium cylinder which is kept in France.Hence the kilogram and the metre are SI units and density is a derived unit from these units.
