Expression of force the equivalent capacitance of the series combination and parallel combination :-

When one terminal of a capacitors is connected to the terminal of another capacitors, called series combination of the capacitors. In series, each capacitor has same charge flow from the battery. The three capacitors C1, C2 and C3 are in the series.

Now, charge on first capacitor is Q1 = C1V1, charge on second capacitor is Q2 = C2V2 and charge on the third capacitor is Q3 = C3V3.

In series, Q1 = Q2 = Q2 = Q and Q = Ceq V.

Also, V = V1 + V2 + V3.

Q/Ceq = Q/C1 + Q/C2 + Q/C3.

1/Ceq = 1/C1 + 1/C2 + 1/C3, this is the formula for equivalent capacitance in series.
