A system is the set of substances and energy that is being studied. If, for example, reactions are occurring in a jar, everything inside the jar is the system, and everything outside the jar is the surroundings. The surroundings are everything not in the system, which means the rest of the universe.

Types of System : Physical or Abstract : Physical system is tangible entities that may be static or dynamic in nature...Open and Closed : An open system continually interacts with its environment. It receives input from the outside and delivers output to outside. A closed system is isolated from environment influences.
