Answer:

When an electric current is passed through a conductor, the conductor becomes hot after some time and produce heat. This happens due to the conversion of some electric energy passing through the conductor into heat energy. This effect of electric current is called heating effect of current.

Explanation:

What is heating effect of electric current

ANS. When a current flows through a conductor,heat energy generates in the conductor. The heating effect of electric current depends on three factors:-

1. A higher resistance produces more heat.

Heat is directly proportional to resistance

2. Heat is directly proportional to time.

More heat is produced in more time

3. Higher the current,the amount of heat produced is also large.

Heat is directly proportional to the square of current.

Hence, the heating effect of electric current through a conductor of resistance (R) for a time t,is given by

H=I^2RT

Heat is directly proportional to the square of electric current , resistance and time.

This equation is the Joules heating effect of electric current.

Application of heating effect of electric current:-

The heating effect of electric current is used in various electrical heating appliances such as electric bulb, electric iron,room heater, geysers, electric fuses etc.

Unit:- Joule

Since,heat is a form of energy and the unit of energy is joule. Therefore, it's unit is joule
