We know distance covered , s = area of trapezuim OABC
or s = ( BC + OA / 2 ) × AD
Now a = BD / AD
or AD = BD / a = BC - DC / a = v - u / a
Also BC = v ; OA = u
From equation ( 1 ) above , we have
s = ( v + u / 2 ) ( v - u )
or s = v² - u² / 2a
or v² - u² = 2as
or s = ( BC + OA / 2 ) × AD
Now a = BD / AD
or AD = BD / a = BC - DC / a = v - u / a
Also BC = v ; OA = u
From equation ( 1 ) above , we have
s = ( v + u / 2 ) ( v - u )
or s = v² - u² / 2a
or v² - u² = 2as
