let a body of mass m starts from rest with constant acc. a and gains speed v after travelling distance d.

using v^2 - 0^2 = 2ad

multiplying bs by 1/2 m

1/2 m v^2 = mad

but ma=F

1/2 m v^2=Fd = work done

this work done is stored as KE

so

KE = 1/2 m v^2
