Derivation for equivalent resistance if three resistors are connected in series,

Total p.d,

=V=V1+V2+V3 ---------(1)

The current remains the same because it is in series,

On applying ohm's law,

=V=IR

On applying ohm's law separately for each resistor,

=V1=IR1

=V2=IR2

=V3=IR3

Therefore from (1),

=IR=IR1+IR2+IR3

=I(R)=I(R1+R2+R3)

=Rs=R1+R2+R3
