We know

W = Q*V ..............(1) where W = Work done, Q = flow of charges and V = potential difference

We also know

Current I = Q/t where Q = flow of charges and t = time

= Q = It............(2)

putting value of Q from equation (2) to (1)

Work done or energy consumed = I*V*t

Explanation:

Let V is the potential difference applied across a resistance R. The amount of work done in moving a charge Q is given by :

W=QV

We know that electric charge, Q=I\times t, I is electric current and t is time. So,

W=ItV

Also, the rate at which work is done is called power. So,

P=\dfrac{W}{t}

i.e.

P=\dfrac{ItV}{t}\\\\P=V\times I

So, electric power is given by the product of voltage and current flowing in the circuit.
