according to universal law of gravitation every particle attracts every other particle in the universe with a force which is directly proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between their centers.

universal  law of gravitation is F=GMm/r²

let masses of the body be M and m and distance between them is r,then due to mutual attraction of the two bodies a force comes into play called gravitational force.

 here the force is directly proportional to product of masses,

        F∝ Mm..........................{1}

and inversaly proportional to square of distance between them,

       F∝1/r².................................{2}

combining {1} and {2}

    F∝Mm/r²

    F=GMm/r²

where G  is universal gravitational constant.
