Heat is defined as the energy required to increase a temperature of a body from its normal state.

In thermodynamics, it is defined as the flow of energy from a hotter system to a cooler system.

Q = mC ∆T,

where ∆T = T₂ - T₁ = change in temperature
C = specific heat of the body
m = mass of the body

Or, Heat is the work done required to raise the temoerature of a body.

Q = FS, where F= force and S=displacement

In SI:
= Nm or Joule

In CGS:
= dyne cm or erg

The SI unit of heat is Joule and CGS unit of heat is erg.

Note: These units are written in derived forms which is standard of writing.
