Derive the relation between atomic weight, equivalent weight and valency of an element=0.54 of a divalent metal 'm' gave 0.9g of its oxide. calculate the atomic weight of metal.​

Explanation:

mass of metal in compound = 0.54 gm

mass of oxygen in compound = 0.9-0.54=0.36gm

0.36 gm oxygen combines with 0.54 gm metal

hence 8 gm oxygen will combine (0.54/0.36)×8=12gm

this is the equivalent weight of metal

hence atomic weight is 12 ×2 =24 gms
