If 1 joule of energy is used per second, we say that energy is used at the rate of 1 watt. One kilowatt hour of electric energy is called one 'unit'. SI unit of energy is joule(J) and commercial unit of energy is kWh(kilowatt-hour). Therefore, 1 kWh = 3.6 x 10^6 J.
