Total kinetic energy, KE, is the sum of translational kinetic energy( Et)and rotational kinetic energy,( Er)

Et = ½mv^2 and Er = ½Iω^2,

where m is mass, v is velocity, I is mass moment of inertia and ω is angular velocity.

That is the relation between kinetic energy and the moment of inertia.
