as we know that the valency means the number of atoms that can be shared or gain for completing its octet so
1) argon has the atomic number of 18 so its electronic configuration will be
K-2,L-8,M-8 so its octet is already full so it has no valency or the valency will be zero
2)carbon has an atomic number of 6 so the electronic configuration will be
K-2,L-4 so it has a space of fourmore atoms in its L shell so ita valency will be 4 HOPE THIS HELPS YOU....maek it as brainlest pls...

VALENCY - number of electrons lost or gained from the outermost shell of an atom to attain stable electronic configuration.

================================

valency of metal = number of valence electrons

valency of non- metals
=8 - number of valence electrons

================================

ARGON - (non - metal)

atomic number = 18
electronic configuration = 2,8,8

valence electron = 8

valency
= 8 - number of valence electrons
= 8 - 8
=0

valency of argon is 0

================================

CARBON- (non - metals)

atomic number = 6

electronic configuration = 2,4

valence electrons = 4

valency
=8 - number of valence electrons
=8 - 4
=4

valency of carbon is 4
