Explanation:

The umbilical cord, which connects your baby to the placenta, contains three vessels: two arteries, which carry blood from the baby to the placenta, and one vein, which carries blood back to the baby. The blood in the arteries contains waste products, such as carbon dioxide, from the baby's metabolism.

hey it's your answer-

1) After implantation, finger like projections appear on the trophoblast called chorionic villi which are surrounded by the uterine tissue and maternal blood. The chorionic villi and uterine tissue become interdigited with each other and jointly form a structural and functional unit between developing embryo(foetus) and maternal body called Placenta.

2) The placenta is connected to the embryo through an umbilical cord which helps in the transport of substances to and from the embryo.

* The umbilical cord begins to form at 5weeks after conception.

3) Placenta facilates the supply of Oxygen and nutrients to the embryo and also removal of carbon dioxide and excretory material produced by the embryo.

4) The blood in the arteries contains waste products, such as carbon dioxide, from the baby's metabolism it needs to thrown out with the help of umbilical cord also called "supply line".

5) It give passive immunity i.e. antibody called immunoglobulin and also act as a barrier for various tetratogens (viruses or other chemicals).
