The full name of Mahatma Gndhi is Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. Gandhi was born at Porabandar in Gujarat on 2nd October,1869. His father Karamchand Uttamchand Gandhi was the Dewan of the Rajkot Estate and his mother Putalibai was a deeply religious lady.Gandhi married Kasturibai at the age of thirteen.

As a student, Gandhi was very medicore and never impressed his teachers and elders by his result. He passed Entrance Examination of Bombay University in 1887. After that,he left for England in 1888 to read law.He returned India in 1893 and joined Bombay bar.As a lawyer,he was not very successful.At that time,he got an offer from Indian businessman of South Africa to take up his case there.Gandhi accepted this offer and went there.When back in India in 1915,Gandhi joined the Indian National Congress and began to work for the independence of India.It was due to his guidance and leadership that India got independence. But a misguided Hindu Youngman, Nathuram Godse, could not understand his high ideals and killed Gandhi on the 30th January,1948 at Birla House in New Delhi.

Gandhiji was a great votary of Truth and Non-violance. He worked hard to bring peace and harmony among the different communities in India. He stood for a casteless and classless society based on Truth, Non-violance and Self discipline. Gandhiji was one of the great men of the world.
